St. Michael's Crossing village street in spring

Our Story

A tale of friendship, letters, and whimsical adventures

Noir Crowfeathers among spring blossoms

Meet Noir Crowfeathers

Noir Crowfeathers is no ordinary crow. With his distinctive burgundy vest and cream-colored scarf, he's become a beloved figure in St. Michael's Crossing and beyond.

Noir loves collecting treasures--not just sparkly things, but the small, meaningful things that tell stories. Ribbons and pressed flowers, curling postage stamps, handwritten notes, and bits and bobs and buttons fill his cozy nest in the old oak on Maple Street.

But Noir's greatest passion is writing letters. He believes that in our fast-paced digital world, there's something magical about receiving a handwritten note in the mail. That's why he founded the Ravenhill Letter Writing Society—to share the joy of correspondence and the treasures he discovers with friends near and far.

The Author

Yes, there is a human behind the Ravenhill Letter Writing Society. My name is Melissa and Noir Crowfeathers is my creation, and all the stories about Noir were and will be written by me.

Noir and I have been friends for 16 years. He was part of my Master's work. I earned my Master's in Writing for Children and Young Adults in 2012 at Spalding University in Louisville, KY. I now live and work in the gorgeous hills of West Virginia.

Noir's stories have never been published, but I have wanted for so long to share him with the world. This idea of the Society is my way of doing that. This website was created by AI using Abacus.ai because I am neither an artist nor a webmaster. To share Noir, I had to use an entity that could help me. Please know that all the stories and letters you receive will be my original creation, written solely by me. I'm grateful from the bottom of my heart that you are here and want to be a part of Noir's beautiful existence. I hope you enjoy your time in St. Michael's Crossing.

The Letter Writing Society

The Ravenhill Letter Writing Society began one spring evening when Noir realized how much joy his letters brought to his local friends. "Why not share this with everyone?" he thought, adjusting his burgundy vest with determination.

Each month, Noir carefully crafts a letter sharing his latest adventures, village news, and philosophical musings (crows are surprisingly thoughtful). He then selects treasures from his collection—stickers, prints, vintage ephemera—that complement the month's theme.

The Society is more than a subscription service; it's an invitation to slow down, appreciate the small wonders of life, and experience the warmth of receiving a letter from a friend. As Noir often says, "In a world of screens, there's magic in paper and ink."

What We Believe

The values that guide everything we do

The Joy of Anticipation

There's something special about waiting for the mail, wondering what treasures this month will bring. We celebrate that anticipation.

Stories Matter

Every item we send has a story. We believe in the power of narrative to connect us and spark imagination.

Handmade with Heart

Each letter is personally written, each envelope carefully prepared. We reject mass production in favor of genuine care.

Community & Friendship

The Society is a community of kindred spirits who appreciate whimsy, nostalgia, and the art of correspondence.
