April Showers Bring May Flowers ... and New Neighbors

A Message from Noir

Dear Friends, I think . . . I'm pretty sure . . . winter has gone for good. The daffs have come and the peepers are peeping. The red bud dots the springtime mountains and all my friends have come home. Hooray! The starlings arrived last week and well, the robins have already been here a while. The robins are supposed to be the harbingers of spring, but most times they come back too early. They end up freezing their talons in the late February snows and bunking up with the cardinals. Chaos with a capital C. This makes the cardinals even grouchier than they already are. They start fights with the blue jays and no one can get any peace. But we know winter is done and dusted when the bluebirds arrive. Dottie and Jim arrived yesterday and have settle back in the house on the fence post by the pond. The Geewilligers have found a nice porcelain bungalow in a very weedy backyard near the center of town. We did see an unfamiliar bluebird family take up in the ramshackled duplex near the edge of the forest. Everyone is talking about that. That place could use a good cleaning and a good family to make it a home. The paints peeling and the whole place is leaning precariously to the right. Speaking of cleaning, I'd better skedaddle before Gran finds me and makes me clean the pots from dinner. I am so glad you are here. I am looking forward to a long, happy friendship and sharing all of the adventures I have here in St. Michael's Crossing. Until next time . . . Love, Noir

Village Happenings

Springtime in the mountains is a blessed time of year. St. Michael's Crossing is bustling with folks spring cleaning and planting flowers. Some have started a vegetable garden. The robins are thrilled as there are plenty of juicy worms for them to devour. The cardinals are relieved to have their homes back in order. We're wondering about the new neighbors. Will they fair well in the old duplex or will they need some friends to help them out?
